Lier

Town in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, situated on the River Nethe near the city of Antwerp; population (1991) 6,200. The chief manufactures are shoes, lace, embroideries, instruments of brass, and cutlery. There are several medieval buildings.

Among buildings in Lier are the town hall with belfry (1269–1411), the collegiate church (1377–1455), and the Zimmertoren, containing an astronomical clock and a museum.
