Liévin

Town in the département of Pas-de-Calais , France, 3 km/2 mi east of Lens , in a former coal-mining district; population (1990) 36,000. The town forms part of the Lens conurbation; population (1990) 300,000. It has attracted a range of light industries to replace jobs lost in mining.
