Ligendza, Catarina (1937- )

Swedish soprano. She made her debut in Linz in 1963, as Mozart's Countess and worked subsequently in Germany. She was heard as Arabella at La Scala, Milan, in 1970, and the following year sang Leonore at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York and Brünnhilde at Bayreuth. Between 1974 and 1977 she appeared at Bayreuth as Isolde, and sang at the Salzburg Easter Festival from 1969. Other roles undertaken at the Bayreuth Festival 1986-87 were Elsa and Isolde. She retired in 1988.
