Ligeti, Andras (1953– )

Hungarian conductor. He studied violin at the Budapest Academy and was leader of the Hungarian State Opera House Orchestra 1976–80. He conducted concerts in Europe and Canada, and was associate conductor with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra from 1985 (tours of the UK and the USA). He made his UK debut with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in 1989, and with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in 1991 (Bartók's Bluebeard's Castle and Mahler's fifth symphony).
