Lilith

In the Old Testament, an Assyrian female demon of the night. According to Jewish tradition in the Talmud, she was the wife of Adam before Eve's creation.

The women include Eve and Lilith (Adam's first wife referred to in Judaic commentaries on the Torah), Sara and Hagar, Tamar, Ruth the Moabit, Abigail, Judith, Esther, Mary and Martha, and Mary of Magdala.
Unlike much of the Lilith fare with which her work is often compared, Amos's albums have aged remarkably well--1998's haunting From the Choirgirl Hotel sounds particularly fresh--and lyrics like "So you can make me come, it doesn't make you Jesus" highlight just how daring she can be.
McLachlan, who spearheaded the Lilith Fair tour in the late-'90s when promoters and nearly everybody else fretted about an all- female lineup, is made of stronger stuff.
