Linares

Town in the province of Jaén, southern Spain; population (2001) 57,600. It has rich mines of lead and copper mixed with silver; sheet lead, pipes, rope, vehicles, and explosives are manufactured. Nearby are the ruins of the Roman town of Castulo.

Town in the region of Maule, Chile, 266 km/165 mi south of Santiago; population (1996) 56,009. Linares is a rail and road junction, and a market centre for agricultural produce. The main industries are milling, tanning, and brickmaking.
