Linda di Chamounix

Opera by Gaetano Donizetti (libretto by Giacomo Rossi, after a vaudeville, La Grâce de Dieu), first produced at the Kärntnertortheater, Vienna, Austria, on 19 May 1842. In the story, the poor girl Linda loves the viscount Carlo, who has disguised himself as a destitute painter. She follows him to Paris and learns his true identity, but goes mad upon learning of his supposed marriage to another woman. Carlo reassures her and Linda recovers.
