Linder, Richard (1901–1978)

German-born US painter. By 1952 he was producing his highly stylized erotic and surrealistic works that linked Pop Art with a symbolic tradition, as seen in Ice (1966). Linder was born in Hamburg, Germany. He emigrated to the USA in 1941, where he became an illustrator for popular magazines in New York City, and taught at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York (1952–65).
