Lindpaintner, Peter Joseph von (1791–1856)

German composer and conductor. He studied at Augsburg and Munich, where in 1812 he became conductor at a minor theatre. In 1819 he went to Stuttgart as court Kapellmeister and in the 1853–54 season visited London to conduct the New Philharmonic concerts.

Works

operas Der Bergkönig (1825), Der Vampyr (1828), Die Genueserin (1839), Lichtenstein (1846) and 24 others; ballet Joko and two others; incidental music to Goethe's Faust; Stabat Mater, six masses; oratorios Abraham and others; cantatas The Widow of Nain, Schiller's Lied von der Glocke; symphonies and overtures; concertos; chamber music; over 50 songs.
