Lindsay, Robert (1949- )

English actor. He made his debut as Jesus in the London musical Godspell (1972). Television appearances have ranged from the popular sitcom Citizen Smith (1977-80) to roles in King Lear (1984), G.B.H. (1991), and Jake's Progress (1995). His performance as Bill Snibson in Me and My Girl (West End and Broadway, 1985-87) won him a Tony award.

Other stage successes include Becket (1991-92) and the title role in Cyrano de Bergerac (1992-93), while on television he also played in Get Some In (1975-76), Seconds Out (1981-82), and Give Us a Break (1983). His films include That'll Be the Day (1973), Bert Rigby, You're a Fool (1988), and Loser Takes All (1989).

Lindsay was born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
