Alitalia

Italian airline founded 1946. It commenced operations on 5 May 1947, from Turin to Catania via Rome. In 1969 Alitalia became the first European airline to operate an all-jet fleet, and in 1993 had a fleet composed of 105 standard body jets and 28 wide body jets.

During 1993 the fleet covered a total distance of more than 222 millino kilometres, and carried 20 million international and domestic passengers. Alitalia has over 20,000 employees, 6,432 of whom are flight personnel.
