Linley, William

Linley, William (1771–1835)

English composer and government official, son and pupil of Thomas Linley; also a pupil of Karl Abel. He held official posts in India, but in between was Richard Brinsley Sheridan's partner in the management of the Drury Lane Theatre, for which he composed some unsuccessful works. He settled in London in 1806 as a writer and composer.
