Lipari Islands

Volcanic group of seven islands off northeastern Sicily, including Lipari (on which is the capital of the same name), Stromboli (active volcano 926 m/3,038 ft high), and Vulcano (also with an active volcano); area 114 sq km/44 sq mi. In Greek mythology, the god Aeolus kept the winds imprisoned in a cave on the Lipari Islands.
