Listowel

Town in County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, on the River Feale, 26 km/16 mi northeast of Tralee; population (2002) 3,600. There is a ruined castle built here by the Fitzmaurices, lords of Kerry.

A week-long writers' festival is held here each June. The Listowel Races are held in the third week of September. The town has a heritage centre with a theatre for traditional Irish music.
