Lithgow

Town in New South Wales, Australia, 113 km/70 mi northwest of Sydney, in a valley of the Blue Mountains; population 11,441 (1996). Lithgow is in a coalmining area but the industry is now in decline; power generation remains a major industry, with Mount Piper power station 25 km/16 mi from the town. Other industries include forestry and the manufacture of woollen textiles.
