Littleton

City and administrative headquarters of Arapahoe County, also in Douglas County, north-central Colorado, on the South Platte River, 16 km/10 mi south of Denver; population (2000) 40,300. It has been a research and development centre for the computer and aerospace industries since the arrival of the Martin Marietta Corporation in the 1950s.

Products include lorries, explosives, cameras, rubber products, and electronic and precision instruments. Arapahoe Community College (1965) is here.

Littleton

Town in northwestern New Hampshire, on the Ammonoosuc and Connecticut rivers, 48 km/30 mi southwest of Berlin; population (1990) 5,800. A summer and winter resort and trade centre, it produces dairy products, gloves, shoes, wood products, and pulpwood.

Eleanor Porter, author of the novel Pollyanna (1913), was born here in 1868.
