Litton, Andrew (1959– )

US conductor. After graduation from the Juilliard School, New Yrok, he worked as assistant conductor at La Scala, Milan. He made his London debut at the 1982 Proms with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and for the following four years was assistant with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington Symphony Orchestra. He was principal of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra 1988–94 and music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1994. He conducted Eugene Onegin at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York in 1989 and made his house premiere at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London in 1992 with Porgy and Bess.
