Liuzzi, Fernando (1884–1940)

Italian musicologist and composer. He studied with Guido Fano and later with Max Reger and Felix Mottl in Munich, Germany. He became professor of harmony at the Conservatories of Parma and of Florence, Italy, successively, and professor of music history at Rome University 1927–28. He edited Italian laudi (sacred songs) and arranged performances of Orazio Vecchi's L'Amfiparnaso (Florence, 1938) and of Sophocles' Oedipus Rex with Andrea Gabrieli's music (Rome, 1937). He wrote books on the laudi, on Italian musicians in France, a volume of critical studies Estetica della musica, and also numerous learned articles.
