Livingston, M(ilton) Stanley (1905–1986)

US physicist. A lifelong leader in atomic particle accelerator design, he developed the first cyclotron with E O Lawrence in 1931. He taught and performed research at Cornell University (1934–38), then moved to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1938–70). Concurrently, he consulted and performed atomic research at Brookhaven (1946–48), Harvard University (1956–67), the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (1967–70), and Los Alamos (1950–86). Livingston was born in Brodhead, Wisconsin.
