Livingston

City and administrative headquarters of Park County, south-central Montana, on the Yellowstone River, 37 km/23 mi east of Bozeman; population (2000) 6,900. It is a trade centre for an agricultural, quarrying (marble, granite), and mining (arsenic, silver, gold) area. Situated 72 km/45 mi north of Yellowstone National Park, and near skiing and mountain climbing areas, it is also a popular resort.

Livingston has housed a number of literary and other public figures, including Calamity Jane and Kitty ‘Madame Bulldog’ O'Leary, who ran a dance hall/brothel here.
