Lloyd Webber, Julian (1951– )

English cellist, brother of Andrew Lloyd Webber. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London and with Pierre Fournier. He made his London debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 1971 and his New York debut in 1980. He has been soloist with leading orchestras and in 1981 gave the first performance of a concerto written for him by Rodrigo. Since 1978 he has been professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. His recordings include two dozen world premiere recordings, with works by Britten, Holst, Sullivan, Vaughan Williams, and Arnold.
