Lobkowitz, (Prince) Joseph Franz Maximilian (1772-1816)

Bohemian aristocrat and patron of music, resident in Vienna, Austria; he had sole direction of the Viennese theatres from 1807. He commissioned Haydn's string quartets Op. 77 and was a co-sponsor of The Creation and The Seasons. The Eroica Symphony was first performed in his house, and Beethoven dedicated the quartets Op. 18 and fifth and sixth symphony, the Triple Concerto, the string quartet Op. 74, and An die ferne Geliebte to him.
