Lobo (or Lopez or Lupus), Duarte (1565-1646)

Portuguese composer. He was widely known as a composer of polyphonic church music, which he published in six books.

He studied under Manuel Mendes (1547-1605) at Evora and later became choirmaster there. Afterwards he went to Lisbon with an appointment to the Royal Hospital and became maestro di cappella at the cathedral about 1590.

Works

Masses, offices for the dead, canticles, motets, and much other church music.
