Lochmaben

Town and former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway unitary authority, Scotland, 13 km/8 mi northeast of Dumfries; population (2001) 1,950. Three nearby lochs contain vendace (Coregonus gracilior), a freshwater whitefish; coarse fishing for this uncommon catch forms a valuable local resource.

The ruins of Lochmaben Castle, believed to be the birthplace of Robert (I) the Bruce, lie within the grounds of Castle Loch.
