Lockhart, Robert Hamilton Bruce (1887-1970)

Scottish journalist and writer. His books, largely autobiographical, include Memoirs of a British Agent 1932, Retreat from Glory 1934, Return to Malaya 1936, My Scottish Youth 1937, Comes the Reckoning 1947, and My Europe 1952. KCMG 1943.

He was born in Anstruther, Fife. Educated at Fettes and the universities of Paris and Berlin, he was British consul in Moscow 1911-17, and later was on the staff of the Evening Standard. During World War II he was deputy undersecretary at the Foreign Office
