Loeb, Leonard B(enedict) (1891–1978)

Swiss-born US physicist. He was a specialist in gaseous electronics, and authored 12 textbooks and approximately 180 scientific papers. Loeb was born in Zürich, Switzerland, and emigrated to the USA as an infant, growing up in California. He served in World War I, studied in England, then at the University of Chicago (1919–23). He spent the rest of his career at the University of California, Berkeley, remaining active after his retirement in 1958.
