Loevinger, Jane

Loevinger, Jane (1918– )

US psychologist. Her research into the psychology of ego development resulted in many publications, including the two-volume Measuring Ego Development (1970), which she coauthored with Ruth Wessler and Carolyn Redmore. Loevinger was born in St Paul, Minnesota. She studied at the universities of Minnesota and California, Berkeley, gaining her PhD in 1944. She joined the department of psychology at Washington University, St Louis, as an instructor in statistics in 1946 and became a research associate at its school of medicine in 1960.
