Loewenberg, Alfred (1902–1949)

English music bibliographer of German origin. He studied at Jena University and graduated there in 1925. The Nazi régime drove him from Germany in 1934, and he settled in London, where he compiled Annals of Opera 1597–1940, containing details of around 4,000 operas in chronological order (published 1943; third edition 1978, edited by Harold Rosenthal).
