Logroscino, Nicola

Logroscino, Nicola (1698–after 1765)

Italian composer. He was chiefly a composer of opera buffa (comic opera), though his first known opera was not written until 1738.

He was a pupil at the Conservatorio di Santa Maria de Loreto 1714–27, and held an organ post in Conza 1728–31. From 1747 he taught counterpoint at the Conservatory in Palermo.

L'inganno per inganno (1738), L'inganno felice (1739), Ciommetella correvata (1744), Il governadore (1747), Giunio Bruto (1748), Leandro, Li zite, Don Paduano, La Griselda (1752), Le finte magie (1756), and many others.

Choral and church music

oratorio La spedizione di Giosué (1763), two settings of the Stabat Mater, and other church music.
