Lomé Convention

Convention in 1975 that established economic cooperation between the European Economic Community and developing countries of Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (ACP). It was renewed in 1979, 1985, 1989, and 2000.

The European Union (EU) and the 76 members of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of states are currently re-negotiating trade agreements that will define their future commercial relations now that the policy of preferential access to European markets that began with the Lome Convention in 1976 has finally come to an end.
The Fourth Lome Convention was replaced by the Cotonou Partnership Agreement in 2000, which extended these unilateral trade preferences up to the end of 2007.
