Lompoc

City in Santa Barbara County, southwest California, USA, near the Pacific Ocean, 67 km/42 mi west of Santa Barbara; population (2000) 41,100. It is situated in the fertile Lompoc Valley; industries include the processing of oil from the city's oil wells, the production of flower seed, and mining diatomaceous earth (a fine-grained rock composed of the valves of fossil diatoms and used in the manufacture of dynamite, rubber, and plastics).

Lompoc was founded in 1874 and incorporated in 1888. The completely restored Mission of La Purísima Concepcion, (1787), to the northeast of the city, is a California historic park.
