British Computer Society

Main professional body for those working in the field of information technology in the UK. Founded in 1957, the BCS was granted a royal charter in 1984. The society is also an Engineering Institution, fully licensed by the Engineering Council to nominate Chartered and Incorporated Engineers and to accredit university courses and training schemes.

The equivalent US organization is the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
