Evening Standard

London evening newspaper. It was founded as The Standard 1827, a Tory paper, and was issued in morning and evening editions from 1857, with the evening edition entitled Evening Standard. In 1916 it was reduced to evening publication only; today it is London's only evening newspaper. It is owned by Associated Newspapers.

In 1923 the paper was bought by Lord Beaverbrook, who was responsible for its modern success.
