London Pianoforte School

Name given to a group of composer-pianists working in London, England, at the turn of the 19th century. They pioneered the Romantic style of keyboard playing, based on a legato touch, and began to develop a more complex harmonic language that ultimately replaced the classical style. Composers of the London Pianoforte School include Muzio Clementi, Jan Dussek, John Field, and Johann Cramer.
