London Stone

Ancient relic in Cannon Street, City of London, England. It was originally in the south wall of St Swithin's Church, on the south side of the street. The church was burnt out in 1940, and subsequently demolished, and the relic is now in the south wall of the Bank of China on the site of the church. Its age and original purpose are not known, although it has been suggested that it was the point from which the Romans measured distances.

The 15th-century rebel Jack Cade struck his sword against the stone when proclaiming himself master of the city, according to the historian Raphael Holinshed.
