Long Branch

City in east-central New Jersey, on the Atlantic Ocean, 8 km/5 mi north of Asbury Park; population (2000) 31,300. It is a popular summer resort, with a 3-km/2-mi-long boardwalk, beaches, surf fishing, and the oceanfront Seven Presidents Park. Boats, clothing, and electronic products are manufactured.

Settled in 1740, Long Branch is one of the nation's oldest seaside holiday destinations. It was a fashionable leisure centre from the early 19th century, and was a summer home to US presidents Grant, Hayes, Garfield, Harrison, McKinley, and Wilson.
