Lopokova, Lydia (1891–1981)

Russian-born danseuse and actor. Among her creations were the role of Mariuccia in Les Femmes de bonne humeur, and the female cancan dancer in La Boutique fantasque. She played a leading part in the Camargo Society and danced as guest artist with the Vic-Wells Ballet in 1931 and 1933.

She was educated at the Imperial Ballet School, St Petersburg, graduating in 1909. She joined the Diaghilev Ballet in 1910, dancing with them intermittently until 1926. She married the economist John Maynard Keynes (later the 1st Baron Keynes) in 1925.
