Loren, Sophia (1934– )![]() The 29-year-old Italian actor Sophia Loren enjoys being spotted among the audience at the Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, California, USA, in April 1963. At a time when Italian female actors had a special reputation for beauty, Sophia Loren gained extra approval for her fluency in the English language and for her sense of humour. Italian film actor. Her boldly sensual appeal was promoted by her husband, the producer Carlo Ponti (1912–2007). Her combination of beauty and talent made her Italy's most famous movie star. She won an Academy Award for La Ciociara/Two Women (1961).
