Lorengar, Pilar (1921–1996)

Spanish soprano. After early performances in concert her career in opera started in 1955. She appeared as Cherubino at Aix; as Violetta at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London; as Pamina and Mozart's Countess at Glyndebourne, 1956–60; and as Donna Elvira at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York in 1966 (her house debut). Other roles included Donna Anna, Fiordiligi, Eurydice, Eva, Mélisande, and Regina in Hindemith's Mathis der Maler. She sang Meyerbeer's Valentine at the Deutsche Oper, Berlin in 1987 and Maddalena in Andrea Chénier at Lyon in 1989. She retired in 1991.
