Los Altos

City in north-central California, in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, 16 km/10 mi west of central San Jose; population (1990) 26,300. It is a residential and technological suburb.

The adjacent town of Los Altos Hills (population (1990) 7,500) is home to Foothill College (1958), whose Electronics Museum details the early history of Silicon Valley.
