Los Angeles, Victoria de (1923–2005)

Spanish soprano. She is renowned for her elegantly refined interpretations of Spanish songs and for the roles of Manon and Madame Butterfly in Puccini's operas.

She studied at the Barcelona Conservatory. After winning first prize in the Geneva International Competition in 1947 she starred in La Vida Breve with the BBC in London the following year. She regularly appeared at Covent Garden (London), La Scala (Milan), and Carnegie Hall (New York) during the 1950s. From the 1960s she concentrated on a concert career.
