Lothar, Mark (1902–1985)

German composer. He studied at the Berlin Musikhochschule with Franz Schreker (composition), Paul Juon (harmony), and Rudolf Krasselt (conducting). Later he had lessons with Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari and others. After appointments as director of music at two Berlin theatres, he was in charge of the music at the Bavarian Staatstheater in Munich 1945–55.

operas Tyll (1928), Lord Spleen (after Ben Jonson's Epicoene, 1930), Münchhausen (1933), Schneider Wibbol (Berlin, 1938), Rappelkopf (Munich, 1958), Der Widerspenstige Heilige (Munich, 1968); incidental music for Eichendorff's Die Freier and other plays.
