Scottish landscape gardener, writer, and architect. He followed and developed Humphrey Repton's ideas and theories, giving them fresh currency 1840 by reprinting all Repton's works in one volume. His work is typified by his unadorned, utilitarian style; the best known example is the park at Derby Arboretum.
