Sullivan

City and administrative headquarters of Sullivan County, southwestern Indiana, 40 km/25 mi south of Terre Haute; population (1990) 4,700. It is in a dairy, poultry, grain, and timber producing area. There are bituminous coal mines and oil and gas deposits nearby.
