Louis XIV style

French decorative arts style prevalent during the reign of the ‘Sun King’ (1643–1715), characterized by both ornate baroque features and classical themes. It was used especially for the sumptuous formal furniture made for the royal palaces. The Louis XV style (1715–74) was the French rococo, a lighter style than Louis XIV, characterized by the use of chinoiserie, asymmetry, and the scroll motif. The Louis XVI style (1774–92) represented early Neo-Classicism .
