Louisa

City and administrative headquarters of Lawrence County, northeastern Kentucky, where the Levisa and Tug forks meet to form the Big Sandy River, across from Fort Gay, West Virginia, and 42 km/26 mi south of Ashland; population (2000) 2,000. It is a trade and shipping centre for field crops, poultry, livestock, and dairy products.

It is the birthplace (1890) of the Supreme Court chief justice Fred Vinson.
