Lovington

City and administrative headquarters of Lea County, southeast New Mexico, 24 km/15 mi west of the Texas border, and 32 km/20 mi northwest of Hobbs; population (1990) 9,300. It is the centre of a farming and ranching area rich in natural gas and oil.
