Low, Mary MacMonnies

Low, Mary (Louise) MacMonnies (1858–1946)

US painter. She was known for her sunny impressionistic scenes, such as Five O'Clock Tea (1891), which she painted while living in France. Low was born Mary Fairchild in New Haven, Connecticut. She studied at the Académie Julien in Paris, France, and married Frederick MacMonnies in 1888. After her divorce she married Will Low in 1909, and returned to the USA to live in New York City.
