    0.03 sec.

Lowe, Peter (c. 1550-1612)

Scottish surgeon. His A Discourse of the Whole Art of Chyrurgerie (1596) is one of the best works of the period on the subject. He founded the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1599.

Although born in Scotland, Lowe studied in France and practised there and in Flanders for many years. About 1598 he returned to Scotland and practised in Glasgow. As a result of his report to the Privy Council on quack doctors, he was appointed to examine those wishing to practise surgery.
