Lowen, Alexander

Lowen, Alexander (1910– )

US psychiatrist. In 1954 he became executive director of the Institute for Bio-Energetic Analysis in New York City. He wrote extensively on the relationship between the mind and body, including The Betrayal of the Body (1967) and The Language of the Body (1971). Lowen was born in New York City. He studied at Brooklyn Law School, graduating in 1934, and gained an MD from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 1951.
